These are the days I live for as a teacher.
The days when I get to watch a child experience something for the first time. The joy that is written all over their faces. All while they are making real life connections to the content we have learned in the classroom. Wow.
This was an amazing field trip. Our students have been learning all about past and present, maps, comparing stories, and retelling stories. This trip helped them to make connections to all of these concepts. We read the story of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel in class this week to prepare. Today we saw the play of the story, and the students loved it! Next week we will be able to compare the text version and the play. The students also used the light rail map to track our trip, and we compared modes of transportation in the present to those in the past. Be sure to ask your child about this trip. Here are a few things you could ask to get them taking about it:
1) What was the stop on the train for the theatre?
2) Who was your favorite character in the play?
3) How was the play different from the book?
4) How did people travel in the past without cars and trains?
We hope you have fun listening to your child tell you all about it! Below, I am including some pictures from our trip as well.
Enjoy!
