You can also use this as a conversation starter at home by asking the following questions: "What is your buddy's name?" And "What is one book your buddy read to you?"
We met our 5th grade buddies today for the first time! Our class has paired up with Mrs. Miller's amazing 5th grade class. We will spend our visits together reading, exploring, creating, and talking! During our first visit today we met in our new Carson Scholars Reading Room to get to know each other and read books! The 5th graders did a wonderful job reading books to our class! We are so excited about this! Be sure to check out the pictures below from our first visit!

We think grandparents are super special over here at Old Pointe Elementary, and we celebrate them every year during our Grandparents Luncheon! Grandparents Day is on Sunday, September 11th. Check out the wonderful pictures from our event today! Thank you for all you have done for these children! We appreciate you. "Young people need something stable to hang on to — a culture connection, a sense of their own past, a hope for their own future. Most of all, they need what grandparents can give them." – Jay Kesler "What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies." – Rudolph Giuliani
We have been learning all about rules during our current Social Studies unit, and how to act at school. We have read several of the David books by David Shannon during this unit. In these books, David is always getting in trouble, and he sure does hear the word "No!" a lot!
After reading several stories, our students each came up with a rule for David to follow. They had to unscramble the rule and glue it down. Then we did a guided art activity where they were all able to illustrate pictures of David just like in the book! They turned out amazing...of course! We hope you enjoy viewing the pictures of our process below! You may have heard your child talking about the "secret password" this week at home, and I wanted to explain what this means in our class! We are working on introducing our interactive writing routine. To start the year, we will have a "Secret Password" each day. Right now the secret password will be letters, but eventually it will be sight words.
Each day we will pick a letter/word and talk about it, write it, spell it, etc. Eventually we will even write sentences with the words. For now, we are working on correct letter formation, letter sounds, and beginning sounds of words. The "secret password" will be placed by the classroom door, and the students have to whisper or say the password before they can leave the room anytime we are exiting! Check out some pictures of our interactive writing this week! (The passwords so far have been Mm, Oo, and Pp!) See if your child remembers the password from today! (Hint: it was Pp!) You can also ask if they remember the other two letters we have done! This would be a great conversation starter after school each day! |
