One of our traditions for the end of the year is to have a Water Day for the K4 and K5 classes. It's just a fun way for these kids to have a blast after a year of hard work! This year was no exception to fun! We had water squirters, a sprinkler, footballs, bubbles, music, water tables, sidewalk chalk, hula hoops, water painting, and others! We also had a pizza party picnic and a movie day! We finished it all off with popsicles! Although it rained first thing in the morning, the kids didn't mind! It was Water Day after all!
Field Day is the day when we celebrate, cut loose, and enjoy how hard we have worked all year long! Our students have worked so hard to make gains in reading, math, social studies, science, technology, and their social skills! We are beyond proud of all of our students, and they definitely enjoyed a day of pure fun and excitement!
Enjoy looking through the pictures and seeing the joy on their faces! (I know I did!)
Also, thank you to all of our wonderful parent volunteers! If I didn't get your picture or see you yesterday, I am sorry. Please know that we truly appreciate you, and we couldn't have days like this without you!
And if you see Mr. K before the year is up, please tell him thank you. He plans field day every year, and he always strives to make it amazing for the students. He truly outdid himself this year!
What an amazing day! Can't wait until the next one!
Happy Memorial Day!
We had a great Memorial Day at Old Pointe today! We started the day with a patriotic song and a moment of silence for our fallen soldiers. We read an ebook about the holiday, and we also did an activity to match up sentences to activities people do on Memorial Day! We read some of the poem titled "In Flanders Field" so we could learn about why people where poppies on Memorial Day. The VFW even supplied our class with poppies to wear today. Make sure to ask your child why we wear a poppy!
Our school also had a picnic! Our awesome cafeteria ladies served hamburgers and hotdogs out of a food truck! We also had the Kona Ice truck here so we could enjoy some icees!
Our amazing principals also planned a staff cookout, and it was delicious! (We have some pretty amazing administrators, if you didn't know that already!)
It was definitely a great day full of learning, honoring, and friendship!
We truly had a wonderful day. We learned a lot about Memorial Day, and why we celebrate it. Ask your child to tell you the importance of Memorial Day!
Wow! What an amazing experience we had today. The Rock Hill community really made this a wonderful learning experience for every student! Our trip had stops at several locations that related to some of our major units and themes this school year!
Here is the plan:
Home Depot- We made two stops in Home Depot. The first was in the materials section to learn about properties of matter, and the second was the garden center to learn about what plants need to survive.
PetSmart- We visited PetSmart so we could learn all about different types of animals and what they need to survive.
ArrowPointe- The credit union taught us about money and goods and services.
All of the stops related to our Social Studies units on goods and services in the community, and our map unit!
We truly did have an amazing time. If you are ever in any of these locations near Celanese in Rock Hill, please let them know how much we appreciate their service to our students and community!
Field Trip Wrap Up:
To review our trip, ask your child the following questions:
1) How much money was in the coin bag at the credit union?
2) What are two animals you saw at PetSmart?
3) Which is heavier: aluminum or steel?
4) What type of plant did Home Depot give us for our class?
