We had such a wonderful time at the Children's Theatre of Charlotte. We saw a production of The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark! We read the book first in class ( it was a chapter book!) so that we could compare and contrast the book and the play. This book also went along with our animal unit in science right now!
Our incubation project starts today! Robin Currence from the local 4H program came to speak to our K5 and K4 classes today. She discussed the chicken life cycle, and described what takes place in the egg as the chick is developing. We also learned about how the incubator works, and how to properly care for the baby chicks once they hatch. We are so excited about studying these eggs and watching them grow! Check back for updates! Hatching day should be May 13! Today is Day 0. Tomorrow is Day 1, and on the 21st day the eggs will begin hatching! We had our Math and Literacy Egg Hunt today! Thank you to all the parents who sent in plastic eggs, egg cartons, and candy. We also want to say how much we appreciate the parents who volunteered during the egg hunt! We could not do these kinds of activities without all of your help and support! The egg hunt was a lot of fun for the students! Each child had his/her own personalized "egg map" that helped him/her find certain eggs. The eggs had things written on them including names, sight words, numbers, shapes, birthdays, and letters. The first step of the hunt involved sorting all eggs by color. Students then received their maps and had to find their specific eggs! These kids are always thinking and problem solving! What a fun way to start spring break! Check out the pictures below to see how much fun we had! We had the most wonderful time during Kite Day! The K5 students and their 5th grade Reading Buddies used teamwork to fly kites together and had lots of fun! All of the research they have done together about kites and weather really paid off! Check out some of the amazing pictures below. I want to say a special thank you to every parent in our class for sending in a kite for this event! Also, thank you so much for the extra kites that were sent in, and also to the parents who came to lend a hand! |
