We had a great Memorial Day at Old Pointe today! We started the day with a patriotic song and a moment of silence for our fallen soldiers. We read an ebook about the holiday, and we also did an activity to match up sentences to activities people do on Memorial Day! We read some of the poem titled "In Flanders Field" so we could learn about why people where poppies on Memorial Day. The VFW even supplied our class with poppies to wear today. Make sure to ask your child why we wear a poppy!
Our school also had a picnic! Our awesome cafeteria ladies served hamburgers and hotdogs out of a food truck! We also had the Kona Ice truck here so we could enjoy some icees!
Our amazing principals also planned a staff cookout, and it was delicious! (We have some pretty amazing administrators, if you didn't know that already!)
It was definitely a great day full of learning, honoring, and friendship!
We truly had a wonderful day. We learned a lot about Memorial Day, and why we celebrate it. Ask your child to tell you the importance of Memorial Day!
